This volume was published in 1999
(revised and reprinted in 2004) in collaboration with Barbara Carpenter, Amanda
Legare, and Jane Brown. These three women formed the
nucleus of the Cabot Oral History Committee, a group that conducted nearly 90
interviews with Cabot elders over a five year period.
The purposes of this volume are to
present a sampling of the oral history that has been collected during the past
several years, to add a visual dimension to these narratives, and to illuminate
some of the many cultural changes that have occurred over the past century.
This book is not intended to be a history of Cabot. What is presented here is
not fact, but opinion – memories.
The Cabot Oral History Committee was
formed in 1994 as a continuation of the Cabot Bicentennial Committee. Through
