bullet Jasper "Jap" Gerry was born on 18 Apr 1831 in West Bloomfield, New York. Hi Ola Dwinell wrote in 1943: "Jasper went to work for father for the season. Left just before haying and worked for Stephen Wooster. Father always resented it, blaming both. Sometime after Jasper asked John Marshall to lend him $100.00. He consented if father would sign his note. When he asked father he said 'Do you call me your friend? Why don't you ask Stephen Wooster?' Jap said 'I suggested Wooster, but [Marshall] didn't know about him.' Well father said 'I am willing to go surety for Stephen Wooster.' Jap took the note to Wooster and told him Father would sign it if he would. Stephen signed it and brought it back to father who signed it as surety for Stephen Wooster. Of course Jap didn't pay and when Stephen found the way the second endorsement was made he was very angry. I probably would have been." Parents: Bacchus Gerry and Orra DWINELL.

She was married to Nat Slayton . Nat Slayton worked for Orlando Gerry. Hi Ola Dwinell wrote in 1943: "Perhaps as easy as any way I could describe Slayton would be to say he was the exact opposite of Amos Dwinell. Orlando seemed to favor the marriage and as they were in the same house we can understatnd how easy a poor marriage might be made. . . . Nat drank so much they had to depend on the hired man [George Kenfield] and all at once Minnie loaded a horse, her furniture, the hired man & his son into a freight car and started to California, she by passenger coach with two of his children and Ruby & Frances. Well she didn't do so much better this time. Think they lived in California seven years, loaded in the old horse, furniture, etc. came to Mystic Conn. Were there two or three years. Nat had drank himself to death. Think they were married in Conn. Minnie came up to our house in Cabot. In a few days George came. He went down and saw the Lon Hopkins place and bought it. Loaded in the old horse again and furniture and came back. One of the really few good deeds I have ever done was to shoot the old horse. They never had to move him again. I think Minnie laid it up against me because I did the deed so willingly when they asked me to and without tears." Children were: Roy Slayton, Ruby Slayton, Frances Slayton.

She was married to George Kenfield in Connecticut.

bullet Oramel Gerry Parents: Bacchus Gerry and Orra DWINELL.

bullet Orlando Gerry was born after 1830. Hi Ola Dwinell wrote in 1943: "Bachus Gerry died after marrying Minerva Clark, and if she survived him there weren't sufficient funds to take care of the step children and they came on to the old Dwinell home as their first stopping place. One little circumstance I have heard my mother tell that makes me think so. She has told of combing the lice from their heads. 27 from Orlando's, so I don't think they had stayed long at the other brothers or sisters then. I would imagine they might have been separated and gone to different uncle or aunts as they could best be accomodated. . . . I don't know how Orlando drifted to Stowe but it might have been in this way . . . . Orlando had always seemed to take special interest in [Uncle Amos and Aunt Nancy]. Think he usually drove up to see them whenever he went to Morrisville. He lived on the road between there and Stowe but near Stowe. After Uncle Amos died Aunt Nancy went to Orlando's and died there. . . . . I don't think Aunt Nancy's will was ever probated. It very likely left all to Orlando. . . . Orlando married Hattie Bennett an only daughter. My father settled her father's estate $40,000. Had a nice level field of 40 acres behind the house that Orlando used to say hadn't a hollow or hill large enough to hide a three days old calf. He [Hattie's father] was in the civil war got a pension and if he had anything to worry about didn't. . . . Orlando had I think [worked] for Hattie Bennet's father. . . . Orlando consumed quite a lot of whiskey I think every day and his hands shook like an aspen. . . . Orlando evidently never took any pains to mix with his Gerry relatives. . . I don't remember the specific things I heard him say about Jap but after Hattie died he began to think of the girls he had known I suppose and thought right away of Eleanor Hall [who he married second]. He came to our house and Nena, Orlando & I were together in the kitchen or dining room and Orlando . . . said he always liked women and said he supposed it was because his mother was a woman and Nena said 'Your father was a man too, wasn't he?' And Orlando said 'Yes and not much of a man either as I can make out.' Eleanor was a radical temperance worker for a good many years. Think the time she spent in the cause had an opposite effect on Orlando. . . . Abijah Bemis once worked for Orlando I feel sure. He and Orlando were kindred spirits. I remember of being on Mt. Mansfield with Father, Orlando and 'Bijah. When we needed our lunch from Orlando or 'Bijah's pocket came a pint or qt. of whisky. I was about 15 and of course wasn't offered it. Father sometimes took a sniff well reduced but those fellows drank that down full strength without blinking. Half of our party were in gay spirits as we rode down the mountain. . . . The farm belonged to Hattie [who, when she died] left to the use of Orlando during life, then to [the] girls. After he married Eleanor he bought a little place down the road toward Stowe, left the farm for the girls to run." Parents: Bacchus Gerry and Orra DWINELL.

He was married to Hattie Bennett. Children were: Minnie Gerry, Maggie Gerry.

bullet Orrilla Gerry was born on 26 Jun 1828 in Marshfield, Vermont. She died on 2 Sep 1870 in Marshfield, Vermont. According to a letter written by Hi Ola Dwinell, Orrilla "developed scrofula and was a cripple for the last years of her life and lived at Father's. Judging from letters that she wrote to my brother Dean she was a fine souled young woman. Someone, perhaps my father, thought a reclining chair would be a nice thing for her and a paper was circulated among relatives, neighbors and friends, my father paying the difference. I have seen the paper but don't know whether it is in my possessions or not. She was living when I was born. The chair circulated around Plainfield Marshfield for anyone who needed it. Someone in Marshfield village had it and it was put over Mears Store. When aunt Hester was sick we went up there and got it. I bought the material to re-upholster it and Ralph & Lonnie Adams put it on. When Fred Dwinell was sick I carried it down to Sim's it was there after the auction where someone stole it."
