Daniel Bemis, Sr. enlisted in the Revolutionary Army August 5, 1777, in Capt. John Wood's company, Col. L. Baldwin's regiment (26th of the line). He and Martha moved from Paxton, Massachusetts to Croyden, New Hampshire in 1794. Late in life, they came to Marshfield, Vermont and lived with Daniel, Jr. on Knob Hill. Hannah Pitkin wrote for Hemenway's Gazetteer that "Universalism was introduced into [Marshfield] by Daniel Bemis, a Revolutionary soldier, who moved here from Connecticut in 1809."
