"Plainfield, Vermont, June 21, 1947 Dear Relatives and Friends, In accordance with their plans, which have been in the making for the past six months, Jane Emily Pitkin and Thomas Yamamoto were married in New Mexico yesterday. Jane met Tom while she was studying at the University of California as part of her candidacy for a degree at Goddard College. Tom was born in San Francisco on August 20, 1917. He graduated from the University of California in 1940 with highest honors in art and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received his Master of Arts degree in art from the same institution in December, 1941. Shortly thereafter, he was required to move to a relocation camp. After a year he moved to New York where he held a variety of jobs. From there he went to Washington to work for the Office of Strategic Services. At the conclusion of the war he returned to California and has lived there since. Tom has recently been awarded the Phelan Traveling Scholarship in Art and for the next year he and Jane plan to live in Plainfield where he will paint and she will continue her college studies. He likes such sports as swimming, fencing, and track. He is greatly interested in politics, the problems of society, and music. Among his avocations are carpentry, electronics, and photography. We have seen several of his paintings and we like them very much. Jane and Tom are making their way across the continent in a Model A Ford. We - Helen, Tim, Belmont and Ronald - are planning to meet them in North Carolina on our return from our western trip about the middle of July. They plan to be in Plainfield about August 1st.
