bullet Jane Baxter TREW Photo was born about 1854 in Pennsylvania. She died on 26 Aug 1900 in Delta, Colorado. Jane was one of the first women to graduate from Oberlin College (1845). She was a good friend of Sarah Blachly, and it was through this connection that she eventually became the second wife of Sarah's brother, Eben. Like the Blachlys, Jane was preoccupied with religion, and was an energetic participant in the work of her husband in founding Freedman's University. After Eben's death, Jane spent her remaining years with her son Trew and his family, helping to educate the children. She did not get along very well with Trew's wife, Dellie, and partly for this reason, she had her own home when the family lived in Delta. She had a disposition to collapse under stress, which seems to have been inherited by Trew. Parents: Andrew Trew.

She was a longtime member and supporter of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Burlington and a very active member and longtime treasurer of that church's Women's Alliance. She was on the board of directors of the Converse Home and of the Burlington YWCA for many years. She was a member of the Green Mountain Folklore Society, the Vermont Historical Society, and the King's Daughters, and was a supporter of the Royall Tyler Theater and its Shakespearian series.
